Starting On My IaC Journey

Foreword Before anyone gets on me, I know this has been a thing for a while. I鈥檝e heard about Ansible playbooks ever since I got interested in Docker, Docker Compose, & Kubernetes. The difference is I never really thought it was useful to me. It always seemed a bit overly complicated compared to what I was using my homelab for which was mostly a cost saving venture, i.e. no-subscription/self-hosted alternatives to things which we do genuinely use a lot like Actual Budget instead of YNAB, Mealie instead of AnyList, & TrueNAS instead of Google Drive (hoping no drives die while the costs are so high for everything 馃). ...

Passing Through an Intel GPU on Proxmox

Passing Through an Intel GPU on Proxmox Why an Intel Card My media stack has been running on Proxmox for a while, and up until recently it leaned on an NVIDIA GPU for hardware transcoding in Jellyfin. NVIDIA passthrough works, but it comes with the typical NVIDIA baggage: proprietary driver installs on both the host and inside containers, licensing quirks around concurrent transcode sessions on consumer cards, and a driver stack that tends to break in small, annoying ways after kernel updates. ...

Hugo Website Deployment w/ Github Pages

Setting Up a Static Site with Hugo and GitHub Pages Why I Have My Own Site There are a few reasons I decided to make my own site. Traefik

Traefik and The Beauty of Certificates Introduction This will be my first project post. As such I鈥檓 posting about something which has become particularly important in my homelab. It鈥檚 called Traefik and has helped me do two things: Organize the services in my homelab Make sure things are secure. Why Traefik? The whole point of Traefik is that it can assign a website to your internal (or external with some extra work) services. This wasn鈥檛 really an issue for me for a long time. I could get by with just an IP and a port, but once I started having to remember 30 different IPs and I had a notebook 3 pages long with IPs and ports, I knew something had to change. Enter in Jim鈥檚 Garage鈥檚 Traefik V3 tutorial and I knew immediately I needed this for my homelab. ...

How's My Homelab?

Foreword This is my first real post on my website. Since it feels special, I figured I鈥檇 post about how my home network/lab is set up. I will say most of my knowledge comes from learning out of Youtube, so here are a few channels I usually look at when I鈥檓 trying to figure something out. Jim鈥檚 Garage Christian Lempa Raid Owl Hardware Haven Overview Here鈥檚 a general list of what I鈥檓 running in my home lab ...
